The Gallerist

At the gallery
beauty & weirdness
jostle for attention;
a dare to express

If I were a painter
what would I depict?

Strangeness of the world
we live in or beauty of it all
to dazzle an eye
touch a heart
tickle a mind

For what is art
a mirror or a hammer?

The gallerist prefers
to knock reality
into shape:
“The world is an art gallery.”

      1. It is Memorial Day Weekend so most people are off of work for the holiday. We are finally able to plant the garden. Have a good week. oxox

  1. I just love the question “a mirror or a hammer?” So thought-provoking. Both, I think, but on many different levels. And the final line sums it up, doesn’t it? Wonderful poem, Khaya.

  2. I adore painting. I worked in an art gallery in college, and it was my favorite place to be. I am not a good painter, yet I love the process. And I love to regard the work of those who are talented. Worth writing about for sure!

    1. I’m not good at it, either but I adore it as much. That’s why I stalk (hang around) visual artists on Instagram…Lol!
