In abundance, it grows
Deep wisdom ancient
Alongside stinging nettle
Gracefully, it stands
I, too feign a pose
Itching injury persistent.
All I should do is breathe
Unfurl towards the light
As curled fronds of a fern
Surrender and let go.

note: In response to Midweek Motif, “Yoga” at Poets United.
I love the unfurling towards the light. So nice to see you at Poets United.
Thank you Sherry for having me at Poets United!
Beautiful, natural, easy image; luv it!!!
“As curled fronds of a fern
Surrender and let go.”
much love…
Much love, Gillena!
I, too, really like those closing lines. What we should do, and what we do are often two very different things.

True that, Elizabeth. Thanks for reading!
Ah, those “shoulds”! And yet, if we persist, we are like the fern, I’m told. Wow.
Yep, we need to let go of the “shoulds”. 🙂
I connect with your words. My personal yoga is to simply stand, breathe, and absorb the moment, preferably somewhere in nature.
That works better for me too, Beverly.
Surrender and let go… precisely!❤️ Beautifully penned, Khaya 🙂
It’s all sounds easy but not so, when faced with a real situation. 🙂
Easier said than done, how about lying down instead?
To that I agree!
The last two lines are an absolute beauty Khaya. It’s really a beautiful image of meditation. I also believe that ‘surrender’ and ‘let go’ is everything.
Thank you, Sumana! Only if, it were that easy.
A beautiful image of unfurling ,surrendering. Excellent .
Thanks Rall!
The imagery of the two last stanzas do wonderful things to the soul. I can see the speaker exhaling, unfurling, being…
Thank you, Maga!
Yes, yoga is a soothing strategy that leads to heal. Once we ‘surrender’ and practice with ‘the goal’ in mind, ….the inner peace follows. 🙂 Lovely poem, Khaya!
What a beautiful poem! Really gives me a deep appreciation of yoga! Nice to meet you here at Poets United!
Thanks Mary, and nice to meet you too!
I so agree with your beautiful conclusion / decision.
I’m so glad you agree. 🙂

A lovely sense of calm and acceptance towards the end and I love the image of unfurling like a fronds of a fern…and yes, that yoga breathing key to all! Beautifully written, Khaya! ?
Thanks dear, Annika!
Breathing and letting go are two of the wisest yet simplest advice we will receive. Lovely poem Khaya!
