Giveaway: Book Lovers {CLOSED}

I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.” – John Burroughs

YAY! I see snow, at last. It’s winter, my favourite season. Now, and just because it’s the season for giving (and receiving), I’ve got a little something for you.

Book Lover Pendant

This hand-carved wooden book pendant by the multitalented artist, Iona Orbinski, is yours if you are a book (and a nature) lover.

So, you’ve read my chapbook, Seasons Defined. You even took time to write a review on your blog and elsewhere (despite that “Big Brother” is determined not to support this endeavour), I can’t THANK YOU enough for your support.

Now, entering the giveaway is as simple as quoting your favourite line or two (or a stanza) from one of the poems in the collection, Seasons Defined. Leave your entry in the comments section below.

Here is my example, and quoting from Poems by Emily Dickinson, Three Series, Complete:

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.
I say it just
Begins to live
That day. (from ‘A Word’)

special notes: I assume you’re already following my blog, public posts on Facebook or Instagram in order to keep up to date. If not, please don’t forget to add your email to the comments section so that I can be able to contact you, if you win.

The giveaway is open from Dec. Wed, 12th – Wed, 19th to anyone who can legally enter it. I will draw and announce the winner on Thursday, Dec 20th and no later than 20:00 EET time. The winner has 24 hours to claim the prize, failing which another winner will be drawn. So, do come back to check!

That’s all, folks. All the best!

UPDATE: The winner of Winter Giveaway: for Book Lovers is KC Redding-Gonzalez.

  1. Khaya, this is a unique and wonderful giveaway. The pendant looks lovely and I like your competition idea. Having read and reviewed your book, I returned to it just now and found many underlinings! So many favourite stanzas but as I treasure the gift of imagination, the freedom to roam this world in my mind, through my writings, I absolutely love and identify with the following stanza:

    ‘Only imagination stands between
man and reality, for in dreamland
    Solitude is tangible.’

  2. Maybe because I have been a vagabond since my early days as a military kid… But it has to be from “Summer” ….

    Think of me as love
    Think of me as joy
    Think of me as home

Home having powerful connotations and mixed metaphors…it is one of the most powerful words in human language…

  3. Sooo pretty! What book lover wouldn’t adore this jewel?

Here is a stanza that stayed with me:
    “Sing, sing you happy bird
    For nightingale awaits dark
In a Land of Midnight Sun”

  4. Darkness

    Yawn…
    Clonk, clonk
    Darkness gentle
    Morning breeze brutal
    Another working day;
    Swallows flee

    My fav!❤️

  5. What a great giveaway, Khaya. I read and reviewed your book a while ago – just after it was out, so I had to go back and do a little hunting for one of my favorite lines. Here goes:
    Andromeda–
    A princess whose beauty splits
    Galaxy into a trillion stars

  6. Yes AJ, I love snow. Think about all that fun in the snow!
And yeah, I’m trying to find your entry among others here, I can’t seem to find it. 😀 😀 😀

  7. Hi Khaya, I enjoyed your words soo much. Here is one of my favourite stanzas from the poem Summer:

What would you have me say of you?
As if immaterial, now you tell me I am
    An autumn baby―
    Because up north, October teases
    Skies weep fearful of winter.

  8. Hi Annika! About the competition idea, it was a way of determining what other poems (favourites by others, as you might have guessed that I love them all) to print as broadsides. Your stanza from Winter Dream made me smile as I think of days ahead playing in the snow. So, thank you so much for rereading, participation and support. Much appreciated!

  9. Hi KC! As a vagabond myself, I know too well what you mean by home as one of the most powerful words in human language. Not forgetting that my name, Khaya, means home in my native language. 😀
    Thank you for your participation!

  10. Hi Maga! Yes that pendant is one a kind, I wish I could keep it for myself but I can’t. 😀

And wow, your stanza selection from “The Crier” reminds of summer days; long forgotten pleasures of a birdsong. Right now we are in the depths of winter, and it’s a long, long way to summer. Thank you for your support, always.

  11. Ah! One of those poems, “Darkness” I thought wouldn’t make sense to someone who hasn’t witnessed Nordic winter. Late autumn is a prelude to cold, dark and long winter. So, I’m happy to hear it’s your favourite. :-). Thanks so much Viv for taking time to participate. Much appreciated!

  12. Hi Diana! Thank you once again for rereading and hunting your favourite lines and finding them from the poem, “In Waiting”. Skygazing is one of my pasttimes. But I have to admit that it is difficult to capture in words the wonder or awe of such an experience. So, I’m super happy to hear you connected with these lines. I appreciate your participation and support, thank you. 🙂

  13. Hi George! This means a lot to me; you taking time to visit my blog. Thank you, I appreciate your participation.

And of course, it’s no surprise that you relate well to these lines from “Summer”. We have the same experience with our seasons turned upside down. 😀
Make the best of your winter season!

  14. I am so excited! I never win things, so…happy dance! Pendant swinging!
Thank you, Khaya, for the wonderful gift of poetry, friendship, and now adornment!

Do leave a trace!
