July Clouds

“Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.” ~ Roger Miller

it’s hot, it’s hot
air rises like
a morning song
summer itself

delicious truth
of an old story
revived, a heart
in the light

…and with

July clouds
fluid flows
the aftermath;
petrichor.

note: I love the rain. There’s something about rain that allows letting go of things one can’t control; something freeing, something that cleanses the soul.

  1. Love this. I had to look up ‘petrichor’, I learned a new word, then I loved your poem even more.

  2. Beautifully said. Petrichor is wonderful. There is something freeing about the rain. A couple of weeks ago I took my morning neighborhood walk while there was light rainfall. It felt amazing!

  3. We are in the raining season here and while it is good news for most people, the cold makes my arthritis almost worse! 🙂 But there is nothing like the freshness of all things when it rains. Greenery everywhere, like a new birth. 🙂 Wonderful poem, Khaya. 🙂

  4. This is utterly gorgeous, Khaya! ❤️ I love the scent of petrichor and agree that rain cleanses the soul 😀

  5. Luv the petrichor, looked it up and luv the poem more
    Happy Wednesday

    Much🕊❤🕊love

  6. It’s hot here, too. Rain is coming, which will be good (but I keep finding leaks in my basement! So, hoping for rain and dreading it! There’s life in a nutshell!) Love the poem!

  7. What a positive look on the weather. It is best that way because we have just got to take what comes,

  8. Petrichor is almost like another momentary Spring after the cleansing rain. I love your observation about rain helping us to let go of things we can’t control. Makes room for more “delicious truth of an old story revived” – what a brilliant and beautiful line. Hearts in light. Thank you.

  9. Thank you dear Celestine. Oi, arthritis can put a damper on that joy. I hope you have some pain relief. Wrap up, my friend!

  10. Thank you, Kyra. Oh yes, the leaks can be a nuisance. Better to take your umbrella with to the basement just for the fun of it. 😀 😀

  11. Hi Jan! Thank you for reading. And for your blog link. I’ve tried so many time to trace comments back to your blog but in vain. Now, I’ve bookmarked it! 🙂

  12. Oh I agree…something cleansing and liberating about rain..at least the first rain that spawns petrichor.

  13. Oh yes…it feels just like this. That heavy air washed clean and filled with that delicious scent. I always have to go for a walk right after the rain to enjoy it.

  14. There is just something about the smell of rain… particularly after a dry spell.

  15. Khaya, you capture the magic of the summer heat with intensity and beauty … it always brings back memories of old, creates new one and as it eases with rain the scent is magnificent, liberating. (Oh, how I love the word petrichor … it should be used more often!)

I love the photo as well, the opening in the clouds like a kiss of blue!

Wishing you blessed summer days! Xx

  16. I love how the tone of the poem sings in the senses like precipitation. And that final word, showing and telling the heart of the piece, is just perfect. Yum!

  17. Lovely to see you around, dear Annika. Thank you for reading and your kind comment. It’d be wonderful to experience petrichor everyday but it doesn’t come by often. Guess that’s what makes it so special.😊

Hope your projects are progressing well, and still have time to enjoy the summer.🌻
