In the Zone

It’s 3 a.m. in the morn, Nameless is already shouting:
“Get out of the way and let me write my story!”
It’s been days of dilly-dallying;
Avoidance persistent

It’s happened once before; the hijacking
A character once held me captive in a place
Where sense of time disappears
– Unimaginable ecstasy

Bitter wind wailing outside is no concern of mine
As lips curl into a smile for I know a secret;
I’m about to enter the zone

note: I’ve been so busy of late, and unfortunately with things that don’t inspire much creativity. I miss the creative and inventive process of writing, and the utter joy of being in the moment.

  1. Ahh….3 a.m….. the time of Zone Muses, apparently. I too, am a sleepwalker who writes in the wee hours –hijacked, but happy nonetheless!

  2. So glad you’re “in the zone” now. I love it too when I’m there. But often it alludes me, not because I’m busy but simply distracted.
    I enjoyed this piece very much.

  3. Ah! The peace and joy of 3 a.m. I know what you mean by in the zone.. I was there today after a long hiatus from creating

  4. This so well describes the joy of writing when one loses oneself in the words!

  5. I love this, Khaya. Oh that Zone where were held captive by our characters. It is luxurious ecstasy. I hope you have a chance to enter and stay awhile. 🙂

  6. How I love to escape to that other world too. Then I am a passionate lover, an adventurer fit and agile, bronzed by the sun not this person, stumbling about juggling doctors appoinments with shopping and housework all the while the blog is calling, yelling for help, needing a hero but there is only me! Loved it Khaya as I so relate.

  7. Aah my muse has all but disappeared and the zone seems like an impossible dream right now…

  8. Yeah!!!😀😀 Khaya, it’s pure joy when creativity creeps upon you, even in the early hours of the morning! Enjoy going with it and happy you’re in that all-encompassing writing world! Xxx

  9. Early morning zones are the most productive! I too tend to dilly-dally during the daytime. At this very moment there is ‘Bitter wind wailing outside’ and I’m in the zone after waiting for an intermittent power cut to end!

  10. Brilliant! I’ve already shared this on FB for writer friends and to save it for its “Unimaginable ecstasy.”

  11. Thanks Myrna! Yes the zone can be elusive. But when those precious writing moments occur, I shut the whole (real) world and its issues outside. 🙂

  12. I’m so pleased to hear that you could relate to this piece, Robin. That imaginary and inventive world is a blessing, we can forget for a while the issues of this real world. As they say, writers live twice. Keep writing!

  13. I love the way you described everything in this poem!! “I’m about to enter the zone”!! Excellent! I have to admit, I haven’t painted in like a week! My soul has just not felt it! I told you, things are going to explode! LOL! Big Hugs!

  14. Thanks dear, Stacy. Perhaps, it’s better to be “out of the zone” with great things coming up and about to explode. You want to be fully aware of your surroundings and senses…LOL!

  15. I totally relate to this. All I would ever want to do is write but most times life gets in the way. When you get into the zone, milk it for all its worth 🙂

Do leave a trace!
